World Happiness Day 2022: History, significance, theme, and quotes
On the 20th of March, every year the world celebrates World Happiness Day. The day is even more important than it was today as the world goes through a lot of emotional turmoil already with recent unprecedented events such as epidemics, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and much more.
A person’s emotional state of contentment, mental and physical satisfaction, in which one can find happiness, happiness, and contentment is happiness. For everyone is different, it has a different meaning, however, happiness has everything to do with positive emotions and satisfying life.
Jayme Illien proposed the idea of World Happiness Day at the 2011 United Nations General Assembly. His ambition was to boost the global Happiness economy by improving the economic development of all countries.
In 2013, 193 member states of the United Nations celebrated the first day of International Happiness Day.
In 2015, the United Nations created 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with the goal of reducing poverty, inequality, and protecting the environment – three of the key components of happiness and well-being.
The theme “Build Back Happier” is the theme for 2022, and aims to achieve global recovery from the COVID-19 epidemic. Families and friends were not able to be together for long because of the closure and epidemic-related practices. The economy and people’s lives have been severely damaged. This means that in many regions, happiness is at an all-time low.
So, as we celebrate this day this year, think about what really excites you and that you can pursue despite the current trend.
Significance of world happiness day
Currently, worldwide, there are many critical situations, including those in Ukraine, Yemen, Gaza, and elsewhere. Focusing on happiness will be difficult. Therefore, today, on World Happy Day, let us remind ourselves and everyone around us that our actions are important and that each of us, no matter where we are, can contribute to a compassionate world.
Bhutan became the first country to take action to introduce a concept of happiness based on Gross National Happiness (GNH). Since then the League of Nations has adopted the principles of sustainable development with a view to focusing on the factors that affect human happiness no matter where one lives, such as poverty alleviation and inequality, and environmental protection.
This year the theme for International Fun Day is “Build Back Happier”. One cannot help but think of this theme as a beautiful thought recalling the chaos caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.
