After taking his first shot into the pond, he followed up his decline with another penalty shot into the water.
After an approach that landed 50+ feet from the pin, he stuck his sixth shot into the rough before finally getting on the green with the seventh.
But missing a six-foot putt saw the effort end the round in nine strokes. Second career five-bogey.
It will take a herculean effort to keep Rickie Fowler's FedEx Playoff hopes alive on Sunday, but those hopes are likely to end at TPC Southwind.
