Former world number one Jason Day withdrew from the Wyndham Championship ahead of in the second round.

The 34-year-old Australian has fallen to 140th in the world rankings and has not won since his championship at Wells Fargo in 2018.

He opened the FedEx Cup regular-season finale on the PGA Tour at Sedgefield Golf Club in Greensboro

He finished at 3-under 67 and on Friday he entered the game tied for 23rd.

Day will likely qualify for his FedEx St. Jude Championship next week in Memphis, the first of his three FedEx Cup Playoffs his event.

Day entered this week at his 115th place on his list of points, with the top 125 advancing to their first playoff event.

Day has  a reputation for retiring from tournaments, often due to injury, as his body is becoming fragile.

All in all, the illness is less of a concern than a back injury when it comes to pitching him again next week.It's the 12th WD in Day's career,
