Free up Android space by updating one app
Regardless of the size of your Android phone’s internal storage capacity, making sure you have enough space can be complicated. As applications and mobile games grow, so do their sizes. Tap or click to see eight simple tips to speed up and clean your Android phone.
Recording high-definition videos and taking lots of photos is a surefire way to quickly fill up your phone’s storage. Of course, you can always move some elements to the cloud, but if you don’t have mobile data, they will be unavailable.
Here is the solution to free up more space. Read on to learn how you can increase your storage by updating a single app.
Here’s the story behind the scenes
Google includes many tools for you to play with in the Android mobile operating system. One of them is called Files by Google, and it’s supposed to be a single app where you can organize and access all kinds of documents, photos, and data on your device.
However, the biggest problem that many Android users face is that Files by Google can sometimes be clunky and it’s not always clear how to use them. However, Google has made some changes in recent months.
For example, it added a Favorites folder for quick navigation and better integration of Google Photos so you can delete images from your device after backing them up to the cloud.
For some, this may not be enough free space. As mentioned earlier, apps and mobile games have become more prominent and can easily take up most of your device’s storage. A recent update to Files by Google makes it easier to see which apps are taking up the most space.
What you can do about it
While you can go to the Play Store to manage your installed apps, the updated Files app does it efficiently. When you open the Files app and go to the “Applications” tab, you’ll notice the addition of smart chip filtering options.
Click on “Large Apps” and Files by Google will show you apps of considerable size. This way, you can easily find out which applications are taking up the most space. Combined with the “Unused Apps” chip, you get an instant overview of the most important apps you’ve ever used. There is also a chip that will only show you the games and you can combine multiple chips for a better search.
Android Police says you’ll only see the list of big, unplayed games after all three chips are activated. This new filtering in Files by Google makes it incredibly easy to quickly and efficiently remove apps that are taking up valuable space.
Don’t panic the first time you open the updated Files by Google app and a warning pops up. After an update, it may require restoring permissions to access your data, including apps, photos, and other files.
